Message Hi guys,
I've got an oil pressure issue that I hope you can give me some input on. When I first got my car, oil pressure was around 30 psi based on the stock gauge. After it warmed up, it would drop down maybe 5 or a little more PSI. I switched to full synthetic oil in April. It seems that more and more often, the oil pressure is low, like around 10 PSI. As I accelerate, it will most of the time rise to about 20 or more PSI. This is usually with the engine all warmed up. Sometimes, but not too often, it seems that it stays low, like around 10 PSI (it's hard to tell, but it's about a third of the way to the 30 PSI mark) even when accelerating and at speed. It happened tonight, so I shut the car off at a stoplight and restarted it. It then rose with acceleration. This is at the border of what the owner's manual says is the "normal range." Is all this normal, or should I be looking to replace something? If so, what (oil pump, etc.)? Could it be the sending unit or sensor, or would that just lead to a reading of 0? What is the normal operating PSI for an NA? Thanks a ton for any and all input! My Z would probably be dead without this site and its members.
